AllIndia Radio will launch a new channel AkashvaniMaitree this month, providing a common platform for participatory contentcreation for listeners in India and Bangladesh.

TheBengali language service channel, to be launched by President Pranab Mukherjeeat Kolkata, is going to be a maiden venture of AIR which aims at blending ofcontent from both India and Bangladesh from the fields of art, culture,literature, music, sports, and shared socioeconomic issues.

Akashvani Maitree channel will source its content fromstate-owned Bangladesh Betar (state-owned radiobroadcasting organization of Bangladesh) according to concept theme noteof the channel. The concept of the channel emanates from a decision takenduring the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi toDhaka in June last year, about exploring possibilities of content-sharing amongthe broadcasting organizations of the two countries.
