The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has decided to simplify the annual renewal permission norms for television channels. This is being done as part of the government's initiative for ease of doing business. They can now continue their operations by simply paying their annual permission fee up to 60 days before the due date. Addressing reporters at the Economic Editor’s Conference, the Information and Broadcasting Minister, Venkaiah Naidu, said, “Broadcasters, who have been given permission for uplinking or downlinking, can continue their operations by simply paying the annual permission fee up to 60 days before the due date, which by itself will be treated as permission for continuation of a channel for a further period of one year.” He said this will provide a major relief for ease of doing business. About 963 channels, including teleports, are going to be benefitted by this decision. – The Hindu Business Line
