The information and broadcasting (I&B) ministry has written to all other ministries to apprise it of the activities they plan to undertake under the Centers five-year mega campaign to attain what the government describes as New India by 2022. The ministry has sought details of the activities so that it could be adequately publicised by the governments publicity wing -- the Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP).

The Sankalp se Siddhi (Attainment through Resolve) campaign kicks off from August 9, marking the 75th anniversary of the Quit India Movement, and will culminate in 2022 when India celebrates its 75th years of Independence. Under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, the Quit India Movement saw people across the country coming together to uproot the British raj from India.

Five years after the movement, India attained Independence on August 15, 1947. As part of the movement, August 15 this year will be celebrated as Sankalp Parv or Day of Resolve for a New India which the freedom fighters would be proud of.

"I shall be grateful if suitable actions are taken in time to make the commemoration a grand success. "Details about planned activities of your ministry (with date & time) may kindly be communicated to us to ensure adequate publicity and visibility of these activities through DAVP in a coordinated manner," Information and Broadcasting Secretary N K Sinha said in a letter to all secretaries to the central ministries. The DAVP is the nodal agency of the government for advertising by various ministries and their departments.

Earlier the personnel ministry had suggested a set of activities -- the quit lndia quiz, the New India Manthan: Share of ideas for a New India and the Causes: one would like to dedicate oneself to -- that could be undertaken as part of the "mass movement"."These core activities can be complemented by the ministries/organizations suitably at their activities," Sinha said. During his Mann Ki Baat radio address, the prime minister had said, "In this month of August, the month of the Quit India Movement, let us come together and resolve: Dirt- Quit India; Poverty-Quit India; Corruption-Quit India; Terrorism- Quit India; Casteism-Quit India; Communalism-Quit India!"- India Today
