The Madras High Court has permitted Kal Cables Private Limited at Mylapore to continue with its present system of transmission of signals through analogue mode for a week. Justice M Duraiswamy granted the permission while passing interim orders on a writ petition from Kal Cables, by its authorised signatory J Rajesh.

According to petitioner, the centre mandated switching over to digital address system (DAS) failing which licence given to operate MSOs would not be renewed. It pointed out that, the union ministry of Information and Broadcasting had extended time till August 17, in respect of TN Arasu Cable for switching over to DAS from the present analogue system of transmission. Petitioner company also applied for extension of time, on July 25. But there was no response. Hence, the petition.

Its senior counsel contended that there should not be any discrimination between Arasu CTV and private CTV operators. Moreover, the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court has granted an interim injunction on the switch over direction, he said. There will be interim injunction in respect of Kal Cables, the judge said and adjourned the matter by a week.- New Indian Express
