The Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV has commenced distribution of free set top boxes to enhance the quality of the cable broadcast to consumers.
The digital addressable System license was procured early this year to enable digital broadcast by local cable operators.
In lieu of this, the administration has commenced distribution of digital set top boxes to the local cable operators of Nallampalli, Penngaram, Palacodde, and Karimangalam taluks.
According to an administration release, consumers are advised to approach their local cable operator and fill up the consumer application form (CAF) on submission of a photocopy of their Aadhar card and address proof in order to collect their set-top box.
An activation fee of Rs. 200 will be collected against their set top box.
Further, charges will be applicable for 1 to 200 channels at Rs. 125 plus 18 percent GST; and from 2-300 channels at Rs. 175 plus 18 percent GST.
As of date, free set top boxes have been issued to local cable operators in four taluks.
Consumers are not required to make any payment towards set top boxes. Only payment towards activation shall be collected, the release said. – The Hindu
