Anticipating big boom in the application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in various government programs in the coming years, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has envisaged massive expansion in the field of ICT and e-governance and m-Governance services.

To meet the future demands, the telecom regulator on Tuesday invited Expression of Interest (EoI) for empanelment of Application Service Providers (ASPs) for providing various ICT based solutions.

While floating the EOI, the TRAI said due to m-Governance, e-Governance, digitization and smart city policies of the government, the demand for a wide range of services based on ICT platform involving Machine to machine (M2M) and Internet of Things (IoT) has increased manifold in the recent times.

TRAI’s move comes in the wake of government thrust on initiatives focusing primarily on technology based services for improving governance and citizen services.

While releasing the terms and conditions for bidding , which will close on February 18 next month, TRAI said proposal from Application Service Providers and IT Solution Providers who have the capability of providing customized ICT based solutions in telecom and broadcasting domain should participate in the bidding.

“The Application Service Providers and IT Solution Providers should have sound domain knowledge to conceptualize, develop, test, implement and support cutting edge solutions, utilizing the mobile, data centre services and open source technologies,” the TRAI document said.

Besides, ASPs should have experience of integration of the software application, database management, Cloud and data centre administration and Mobile Applications, it added. 

TRAI has also outlined a vision to have an integrated platform to effectively measure and represent the network performance of Telecom and Broadcasting stakeholders towards customer perceived quality of service. – UNI India
