Your excellences, distinguished guests, members of the media, ladies and gentlemen,

A very Good Morning. It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the inaugural ConnecTechAsia.

The accelerating pace of technology in recent years is heralding a new era. With the rise of the digital enterprise, we are now in an age of convergence where the lines between industries, particularly that of telecoms, media and technology have become increasingly blurred.

Alongside this, new emerging technologies such as IoT, AI, VR and robotics are also bringing about disruption and opportunity – a trend that now cuts across industries like never before. The ability to innovate and mitigate digital disruption is key to success in a fast evolving setting in Asia, and is a core premise driving the evolution of our shows.

This year, we have brought our three shows under one new brand – ConnecTechAsia, a mega technology event comprising CommunicAsia, BroadcastAsia, and the new NXTAsia, positioned at the intersection of the converging industries of info-communications, broadcasting, and emerging technologies.

Leveraging on our expertise of over 40 years, combining the shows under a single event allows us to better serve our core audience. Additionally, it has enabled us to build a new segment, NXTAsia, which represents the nature of our dynamic business landscape that is increasingly being disrupted by new technologies over the horizon.

With the rise of the digital consumer, the broadcast industry’s role in providing new ways to deliver engaging content for consumers has also gained prominence. Under this new brand, ConnecTechAsia will be the only business platform in the region to cover the entire spectrum of communications and emerging technologies sectors, and also the broadcast industry. The event brings a holistic view of infrastructure hardware, software, services and high-level thought-leadership from leading and upcoming companies and industry executives from all over the world, to help businesses and governments in Asia navigate and adapt to this new era of digital convergence.

As the region’s most prominent mega technology event, this year’s show will draw 40,000 attendees from 100 countries and regions. They will get to experience the newest cutting-edge innovations from 1,800 exhibitors housed across two venues, here at the Marina Bay Sands and over at Suntec Singapore. Out of our 1,800 exhibitors, 67 percent (1,205) are from Asia, a reflection of the region’s rapid digitalisation. With Singapore also being a key gateway to Asia, the show will feature international exhibitors from the US as well as Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

Attendees will also get to hear from a stellar line-up of more than 220 thought-leaders including industry heavyweights such as Alibaba Cloud International, Google Cloud, Huawei, and Netflix at the ConnecTechAsia Summit, which runs alongside the exhibition over the next three days.

NXTAsia, our new dedicated show, spotlights how emerging technologies such as AI, robotics, blockchain, VR/AR and IoT are impacting industries and businesses across Asia. To provide a more immersive experience, we have converted a portion of basement 2 into a ‘Playground’ for a taste of the smart city of the future. Attendees will get to test-drive the Hyundai IONIQ Electric, a zero-emissions, all-electric car, catch OTSAW’s OR-3 outdoor autonomous security robot in action as it uses AI and self-driving technologies to patrol the streets, as well as experience the future of smart residences and offices at Habitap’s showcase area.

Another new feature at NXTAsia is Big Bang 2018, a one-day unconference style experience that will deliberate over some of the pressing topics surrounding our co-existence with rising automation and artificial intelligence.

CommunicAsia will explore the latest technologies such as 5G, which is expected to roll out as early as next year, will be a key enabler for the widespread use of IoT and usher in a new age of connectivity. The Huawei eco-Connect 2018 held in conjunction with CommunicAsia will highlight Huawei’s innovative solutions and present successful case studies alongside strategic business partners on topics such as 5G, Network and IT.

BroadcastAsia at Suntec will feature technologies that are driving change for traditional broadcasters such as Ultra High-Definition (UHD) content, Live Production, Over-the-top (OTT) platforms and the latest cinematography and film production equipment, including 4K and 8K cameras.

With gaming fast experiencing significant growth in our region, we are thrilled to host the first-ever live esports tournament – the Southeast Asian League (SEAL) at the new Esports Arena Studio. Held in collaboration with WeOne, a Blockchain-based esports tournament and gaming platform, together with esports organiser Cresmos, this three-day live streamed Hearthstone tournament will provide an immersive experience for attendees, with guided tours and behind-the-scenes look at the production of an esports tournament and blockchain technology that forms the core of the game.

Before I end, I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to Mr Iswaran for being our Guest-of-Honour, Singapore’s Ministry for Communications and Information, the Info-communications Media Development Authority of Singapore, the Government Technology Agency of Singapore, and all other trade associations and partners from the ICT and broadcasting industries, for their steadfast support through the years and in the future with our new brand.

The ability to innovate and remain agile in the face of disruption will be the defining hallmark of success of the intelligent enterprise of the future. Even as converging digital trends and the emergence of new technologies continue to redefine our world, ConnecTechAsia will stay true to its vision and gather the latest innovations and knowledge that can enable businesses and governments to build a smarter, more connected world for all.

Once again, I wish all our overseas guests a pleasant stay in Singapore and to all attendees, a fulfilling time over the next few days. Thank you. – Broadcast and CableSat Bureau
