GatesAir, a global leader in wireless, over-the-air content delivery solutions for radio and TV broadcasters, is the proud recipient of a prestigious Best of Show Awards from NewBay Media for its Intraplex® IP Link MPXp codec, an innovation that cuts bandwidth consumption by more than 50 percent for uncompressed digital IP STL transport. GatesAir was presented with the award at the 2017 NAB Show by Radio Magazine, the definitive source for information on technology of radio broadcasting for engineers and managers.
The Intraplex IP Link MPXp codec marks a convergence of traditional Intraplex® strengths with new innovations that reduce the costs, accelerate the speeds, and bolster the opportunities associated with radio program transport over digital IP studio-to-transmitter links (STL). While this codec leverages many of the renowned IP Link codec strengths—notably GatesAir’s unique dynamic stream splicing technology to mitigate IP packet loss and eliminate off-air time—the Intraplex IP Link MPXp offers several industry firsts. Foremost, it is the first FM MPX IP codec to support AES 192 digital and analog composite signals simultaneously over a secure and reliable IP path.
With its unique built-in bandwidth reduction technology and signal parameter selection, broadcasters can transport uncompressed AES 192 signals as low as 1.8Mb/s—a more than 50 percent reduction in bandwidth utilization compared to most codecs on the market. This exceptional bandwidth efficiency opens more headroom for increased packet protection, as well as additional audio and data services.
“The Intraplex IP Link MPXp offers tremendous value and flexibility for the broadcaster, and we appreciate Radio Magazine’s recognition of this innovation for our customers,” said Keyur Parikh, Director, Intraplex products, GatesAir. “With lower-cost links, improved audio quality and enhanced security out of the gate, the Intraplex IP Link MPXp also gives broadcasters the opportunity to simplify processing and distribution architectures, and lay a foundation for new services thanks to its significant reduction in bandwidth usage. For those broadcasters expecting to transition from analog to digital exciters in their next upgrade cycles, the MPXp’s inherent hybrid capability preserves their investment for years to come.”
NewBay’s Best of Show Awards are evaluated by a panel of industry experts and are selected based on innovation, feature set, cost efficiency and performance in serving the industry. Winners receive an award for display and will be featured in the corresponding publications. All nominated products, winning or not, are also featured in the special Best of Show Awards Program Guide distributed in digital form after the convention.
“The products nominated for the Best of Show program, now in its fourth year, provide an outstanding overview of new technology on the show floor and shine a spotlight on the very best,” said NewBay Broadcast & Video Group Vice President & Group Publisher Eric Trabb. – Broadcast and CableSat Bureau
