In the 21st Task Force meeting, held on March 14, 2017, extension to continue with analog signals for Phase-IV areas was not granted.

An update on the status of STB (set-top box) seeding and state-wise seeding revealed that 64.4 million STBs have been seeded in Phase-III and IV of digital addressable system (DAS), amounting to 67 percent of the total requirement.

MSO members shared their problems in implementing cable TV digitization in Phase-IV areas.

Siti Cable's representative highlighted that telecom bandwidth available in remote areas of Phase-IV is poorly served and can only be utilized by one or two MSOs, affecting quality of service.

GTPL Hathway stated that while they had no problem in implementing digitization, some push from the state government was required.

The DTH industry assured the Task Force that initiatives were being taken to cover those areas where cable connectivity was not available. Commercial problems were being addressed, where required.

Representatives of national MSOs raised the issue of continuance of analog signals in some areas, particularly in Telangana state, and suggested that all broadcasters be required to go for total discontinuation of analog signals.

A representative from the state government outlined their readiness and action taken by them with regard to successful implementation of cable TV digitization.

The conclusion of the meeting was that stakeholders assured that they had enough inventory of STBs to be seeded and the chairperson of the Task Force reiterated that no analog signal would be carried on cable TV network after March 31, 2017.
