Sanjiv Kainth, Country Manager-India, Irdeto

We are in an expansion mode in India, and with our Delhi office having evolved as a global hub we are very upbeat on our presence in India.

In the existing competitive scenario, we help our customers manage new technology implementations, such as 4K Ultra HD, combat the growing scale and sophistication of online piracy, and accommodate consumer demand for high-quality, multiscreen experiences.

Security will play a fundamental role going forward. Being a security company, we protect content as well as the consumers. Having a trusted security partner with expertise across the value chain, and knowledge of how to apply the technologies and services in the changing landscape, is key to staying flexible and agile.

The nature of piracy has changed over the years. Companies like ours have built robust systems, making it almost impossible to hack cards and boxes. Hackers now use legitimate Internet connections to plug-in boxes to the Internet and steal from global audience.

On performance in 2016

Irdeto being a leader in securing the digital platform itself not only provides solutions but also services for tracking and monitoring illegal Internet usage. Currently, we are doing a lot on the anti-piracy front globally too. In India, we are in dialogue with content owners and film studios.

Our global Network Operations Centre (NOC) at Amsterdam offers 24/7 monitoring and rapid response for customers deploying hosted/cloud-based solutions and Managed Services. The NOC is designed to give our customers real-time monitoring and enhanced service levels for our hosted/cloud-based Multiscreen and Rights solutions. We also use the facility to monitor other areas that impact our customers' businesses, such as the need for Revenue Assurance. Some of the biggest names in the business have hired us to do their piracymonitoring, including various large Hollywood studios, content owners and pay TV operators globally.

We are doing a lot of work in this area, which is quite path breaking. We have a heat map with dots indicating piracy. Pressing a dot reveals the IP of the computer being used for piracy and the illegal content being used. We can track the activities down to so much detail.

On plans for 2017

We have recently teamed up with Tata Sky to deliver a cost-efficient solution that improves end-user experience with live linear OTT on multiple platforms, including Windows, iOS, and Android devices, gaming consoles, and Smart TVs.

The project is underway and should be up and running by the second half of 2017. We are in discussions with other operators as well. 2017 is an action filled year for us.

Some of our other customers include Videocon D2H, Sun Direct DTH, and Dialog TV in Sri Lanka. On the cable side, we are partners with ACT (Atria Convergence Technologies Pvt. Ltd.), SCV (Sumangali Cable Vision) Network, and ICC Intermedia Cable Communication Pvt. Ltd., Manthan Broadband and BCN to name a few.

We also secure content for broadcasters including NDTV Group, TV Today group, Disney, National Geographic, Sahara Group, and Viacom18. I think apart from Star, Zee, and Sony, we are associated with all the other channels, and perhaps contribute to an 80 percent market share in the security segment.

We are in an expansion mode in India, and with our Delhi office having evolved as a global hub we are very upbeat on our presence in India.
