130 million videos watched illegally in the Nordics
Hundreds of millions of film and TV series are illegally viewed in the Nordic region each year.
According to Stockholm-based Mediavision, most of the titles are foreign, but a substantial share is local.
The consultancy estimates close to 130 million Swedish, Finnish, Danish and Norwegian films and TV episodes are pirated each year in the region.
Piracy has been an issue in the Nordics, and Sweden in particular, since the early days of the Internet. The region was responsible for sites such as Pirate Bay and Swefilmer, but despite their departure from the scene, the problem remains.
According to Mediavision research, 14% of the Nordic population 15-74 years admits to having downloaded or streamed video content illegally in the past month.
Mediavision says the 130 million local titles that are pirated puts pressure on local studios that rely heavily on subsidies for production financing. Broadband TV News
