PD Vaghela appointed Chairman, TRAI

PD Vaghela has been appointed as the chairman of the Telecom Regulatory of India (Trai). Vaghela will succeed RS Sharma, who retires end-September.

Vaghela, a 1986- batch, Gujarat-cadre IAS officer, was secretary, department of pharmaceuticals (DoP), under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers since August 2019, where his responsibility primarily was looking at controlling the prices of medicines and medical devices.

Vaghela was commissioner of commercial tax in Gujarat, prior to his assignment at DoP. He played a crucial role in the rollout of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in 2017.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment, that was made in a notification released by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). BCS Bureau
