Insight TV picks up global Extreme E broadcast rights
Insight TV has agreed a deal with Extreme E to broadcast the competition in all territories except Brazil, India, Bangladesh, the Maldives, Germany, the US and the UK.
In addition to airing the five X Prixs that make up the 2021 season across its linear and digital channels, Insight TV will also show Extreme E’s race highlights package, as well as the championship’s review and magazine shows.
This deal does not cover the UK, where Extreme E has already announced a number of broadcast agreements with the BBC, ITV, BT Sport, and Sky Sports.
Extreme E is set to get underway next weekend, with the competition visiting AlUla in Saudi Arabia as the first of its five remote locations that highlight environmental issues including desertification, rising sea levels, glacial retreat, deforestation and Arctic ice melt.
Arun Maljaars, Insight TV vice president of content and channels, said: “Extreme E resonates with our millennial and Gen Z audiences on multiple levels, from addressing climate change and its effect on ecosystems world-over, to showcasing the performance of all-electric SUVs in extreme and thrilling conditions. We can’t wait to broadcast this fantastic race series to our viewers around the world.”
Extreme E chief marketing officer, Ali Russell, added: “I am delighted to welcome Insight TV, the go-to platform for story-driven millennial audiences, as broadcast partner to Extreme E.
“Extreme E is an exciting new motorsport, unlike any other, showcasing electric racing, adventure and environmental issues in some of the most challenging environments on the planet. As well as the live racing, we are producing behind the scenes programming which delves deeper into the championship and its wider purposes concerning electrification, environment and equality.” Broadcast Now
