Disney surpasses 100 million SVoD subs in the US

New figures from Ampere Analysis suggest Disney’s three SVoD services in the US, Disney Plus, Hulu and ESPN Plus, have topped 100 million subscribers in early Q4 2021.

Disney surpassed 50 million US subscriptions in Q4 2019 following the launch of Disney Plus and, according to the analysts, has now hit the 100m milestone, with both Hulu and Disney Plus on track to finish the year in excess of 40 million subscriptions.

ESPN Plus is expected to finish 2021 with more than 20 million subscriptions, nearly six times more than at the end of Q3 2019, before the launch of Disney Plus.

Ampere estimates that the domestic US client base of the three services will reach around 108 million subscriptions by the end of 2021, up from around 99 million at the end of Q3 2021.

Toby Holleran, research manager at Ampere Analysis said: “The Disney Plus, Hulu and ESPN Plus bundle, which offers an $8 per month saving on taking the services individually, is a strong driver for Disney’s overall streaming growth in the US, particularly for ESPN Plus.

“Additionally, the plan to incorporate Disney Plus and ESPN Plus subscriptions—alongside Hulu’s SVoD service—with a Hulu TV contract from next month will further push the domestic US subscriber base of the three services, reaching around 108 million subscriptions by the end of the year.” TVB Europe
