Rohde & Schwarz Supplies Latest Generation FM Transmitters To Radio UNAM In Mexico
Radio UNAM has decided in favor of the R&S THR9 from the Rohde & Schwarz family of FM high-performance radio transmitters. The radio broadcaster of the National Autonomous University of Mexico will receive a 40 kW transmitter, the largest transmitter ever installed by Rohde & Schwarz in Mexico. The key factors for the purchase decision were the transmitter’s compact design and space-saving liquid cooling concept.
Munich, January 28, 2019 — Radio UNAM (Radio de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) offers the City of Mexico a program that covers culture, research and science. The station is strongly oriented to values such as criticism, analysis and freedom of expression. But they also explore new forms of radio. This is where the FM transmitter from Rohde & Schwarz comes in.
Due to space constraints on the campus, the transmitter’s compact footprint was a key consideration for the purchase decision. The R&S THR9 delivers extremely high power density, with 40 kW output power in a single 19-inch rack. The transmitter also features liquid cooling, which not only saves space, but also energy and costs. There is no need for the usual high-capacity air conditioning systems, reducing the maintenance effort for the cooling system. Unlike air conditioning systems, which need servicing several times a year, the cooling system of the R&S THR9 only has to be serviced every four years. With an energy efficiency of 75 percent in FM mode, it also cuts energy costs.
The service concept was another point in favor of Rohde & Schwarz. The company offers the best possible support for all phases of the product lifecycle. Customized service offerings can minimize costs while maximizing availability and autonomy.―BCS Bureau
