Warner Bros. and Nifty to launch Looney Tunes NFT program
After 80 years of struggling to catch one measly Tweety Bird, Sylvester the pussycat may just have to settle for owning an NFT of the beloved yellow canary instead.
Warner Bros. Consumer Products and New York-based NFT platform Nifty are partnering to launch a “Looney Tunes: What’s Up Block?” blockchain program this summer.
This collection of Looney Tunes-themed NFTs will launch on Nifty Gateway, the platform’s online marketplace where users can buy, sell and trade their digital items.
Purchasing one of the Looney Tunes NFTs will give fans access to additional features including exclusive content, games, virtual meet-and-greets and an advance purchasing window for new NFT drops.
To celebrate Tweety Bird’s 80th anniversary, he will be the first character featured in the collection. Each NFT will have unique expressions, clothing and accessories to enhance its collectibility.
Warner Bros. upped Josh Hackbarth from head of brand and franchise development to head of NFT commercial development earlier in January. He now oversees the launch and operations of all NFT partnerships for the studio.
This collection of NFTs marks the third partnership between Warner Bros. and Nifty. The two companies joined forces twice last year, launching a limited-edition drop of 91,000 NFTs based on characters from the 2021 film Space Jam: A New Legacy, followed by a “Matrix Avatars” NFT program in November.
