Sony Pictures Networks secures exclusive TV and digital rights to DFB-Pokal
Sony Pictures Networks (SPN) has secured exclusive media rights to broadcast the 2022-23 season of the DFB-Pokal, the German football event.
The broadcaster has exclusive rights to broadcast the league across the Indian subcontinent – India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The partnership will also give SPN the right to live stream all matches on its OTT platform, SonyLiv.
Starting with the second round which will begin on October 18, SPN Sports Channels will broadcast the bulk of this year’s DFB-Pokal season.
The competition brings together 64 teams from several leagues across Germany, including the Bundesliga, Bundesliga 2 and 3rd Division as well as the lower level regional leagues.
The DFB-Pokal title is important at European conference level, as the winner qualifies for the UEFA Europa League group stage.
The 80th edition of the DFB-Pokal will see reigning champions RB Leipzig defend their maiden title against some of Germany’s biggest teams. Fans will also have the chance to witness one of Spain’s most revered footballing legends, Xabi Alonso, take on the role of Bayer Leverkusen manager.
DFB-Pokal’s most successful side, Bayern Munich, are off to a good start and with the inclusion of star player Sadio Mane, they will be looking forward to replicating their Bundesliga form in this league. Olt News
