Etisalat founding member Mohammed Saeed Al Mulla dies
Emirati businessman and former UAE minister Mohammed Saeed Al Mulla passed away on Thursday. He was 97.
Al Mulla, who was born in Dubai’s Shindagha in 1926, was appointed as the Minister of State for Union and Gulf Affairs in the first Cabinet, formed by late Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the former vice president and prime minister of the UAE.
Al Mull was appointed as the Minister of Transportation and Communication in 1973, during the second Cabinet formation.
He maintained his ministerial portfolio until 1977 during the third Cabinet reshuffle, and continued his role until 1997.
In 1965, Al Mulla was selected to be the first chairman of the Board of Directors of Emirates Telecommunications Company (Etisalat), which was established on August 30, 1976.
Etisalat said: “We bid farewell to His Excellency Mohammed Saeed Al Mulla, a figure of great influence in the development of the UAE. His influence on the national economy and his involvement in various industries, including telecommunications,” via Twitter.
Al Mulla was also the first chairman of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry Board of Directors. ArabianBusiness
