Shortage Of Staff At All India Radio, Kohima Doordarshan
There is shortage of staff and officers at the All India Radio and Doordarshan Kendra for Nagaland.
Further, there has been no Press Information Bureau (PIB) officer posted to Kohima for the past many years, an official of the state’s department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) told officials of the Information & Broadcasting ministry during a regional conference.
Another matter that the Nagaland IPR officials spoke to the ministry officials about was that of a proposal to shift one of its Kohima bureau to Imphal in Manipur.
It will not be ‘fair’ to shift the office of the ‘regional outreach bureau’ to Manipur as is being contemplated by the ministry, IPR Commissioner-secretary Maria Yanthan was stated to have said at the conference.
A two-day conference on information and broadcasting for the Northeast zone and Kolkata region concluded on August 24 at Guwahati.
Information officials from Nagaland are also stated to have attended the conference, updates to the local media informed.
The government publicity agency, the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR), issued updates to the media on August 24 informing about the conference.
On the second day of the conference, Amit Khare, the secretary to the ministry of Information & Broadcasting, government of India, was stated to have addressed officials of the various departments of Information and Public Relations in the Northeast region states and senior officers of I&B units in the region.
Officials of all the IPR of the Northeast states were stated to have highlighted how the various units can converge ‘to highlight the activities and achievements o the government.’
Commissioner-secretary of the IPR for Nagaland Maria Yanthan also spoke at the event. She was stated to have appraised the secretary and officials of the ministry about the activities of the various media units in Nagaland.
Yanthan highlighted the grievances and difficulties faced by the establishment of All India Radio and Doordarshan Kendra. Further, she mentioned shortage of staff and officers in the two units. Further, the IPR stated, the official pointed out that no PIB officer has been posted in Kohima for the past many years.
Likewise, the official broached the issue of shifting a regional office to Imphal in Manipur. The IPR stated that Yanthan brought to the notice of the ministry officials that it will not be ‘fair’ to shift the office of the ‘regional outreach bureau’ from Kohima to Imphal as is being contemplated by the ministry.
‘The secretary gave a patient hearing to all the suggestions and grievances put forward and called on the state DIPRs and the I&B media units to work hand in hand towards the common goal of keeping informed on the policies and programmes of the government,’ the IPR stated.
