TACTV has pending dues of over Rs 500 crore
State-owned Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV (TACTV) owes broadcasters, including Sony, Zee, Viacom, Disney Star, and Sun TV, over Rs 500 crore in payment. The dues pertain to television channel subscription fees, which TACTV has not paid to several broadcasters for the last year.
The broadcasters hesitate to cancel the respective TV channels’ access to the Cable TV company, fearing the state government might hurt their overall business in the region. Further, disconnection might lead to copyright issues as last-mile operators may start pirating the signals.
The broadcasters can appeal for pending dues against the company in the telecom disputes settlement and appellate tribunal (TDSAT).
MIB has met with TACTV to understand the concerns, but the matter is sub judice and will be dealt with accordingly.
