Airtel emerges leader in four out of five broadband services metrics
Bharti Airtel has emerged as a leader in four out of five metrics measuring the quality of service for fixed broadband services, according to a report by OpenSignal. However, Reliance Jio has claimed the top position in broadband consistent quality.
OpenSignal’s analysis reveals that Airtel excels in broadband video experience, boasting an upload speed of 33.3 Mbps, compared to Reliance Jio’s 26.8 Mbps. Airtel also outperforms in download speed at 44.1 Mbps, surpassing Jio’s 33.8 Mbps and peak download speed, reaching 213.6 Mbps, while Jio’s peak download speed stands at 155.3 Mbps.
Although Jio, the leading player in the telecom market, emerged as the top performer in broadband consistent quality, achieving 71.6 per cent of test results meeting minimum performance thresholds for activities such as watching HD videos, conducting group video conference calls and playing games.
The report from OpenSignal, released on Thursday, indicates that Jio surpasses Airtel by 3.2 per cent in the Broadband Consistent Quality metric.
BSNL, the state-owned telecommunications company, maintained its position in the third position across all evaluated metrics.
The analysis focused on seven major cities, including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Kolkata. Among the five key fixed broadband service providers identified in these cities—Jio, Airtel, Hathway, Excitel and Alliance—Airtel leads in speed in Ahmedabad and Mumbai.
Meanwhile, Hathway dominates in Bengaluru, sharing the top spot in Chennai with ACT. Excitel stands out in Delhi and Hyderabad for both download and upload speeds, according to the report. BW BusinessWorld
