Auctions for MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 slots

80th auction
Prasar Bharati has invited applications for allotment of vacant MPEG-4 slots of DD FreeDish DTH Platform for the period from Aug 1, 2024 to March 3, 2025 through 80™ online e­ auction process to be tentatively held from July 24, 2024.

The e-auction will be conducted by E-auction methodology for allotment of DD FreeDish slots to private TV channels, notified by Prasar Bharati on January 27, 2023, and subsequent amendment dated December 13, 2023.

Only satellite channels licensed by the Ministry of I&B would be allowed to participate in the auction. Only companies holding valid permission from the Ministry of I & B can apply for participation in the auction for the allocation of the DD FreeDish slot. International Public Broadcasters licensed by the Ministry of I & B can also participate in auction.

Bidding in the Auction of MPEG-4 slots will be open to all Genres and Language Channels at a Reserve Price of Rs. 1,34,49,000/—from August 1, 2024, to March 3, 2025. 75 percent of content telecast on the channel shall be in Genre and Language (audio), as declared by the applicant, Channel Provider at the time of e-auction, excluding the limit of advertisements/promos on the channel as prescribed under rule (7) sub-rule (ii) of Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995 across a month.

This means that the content of the declared Genre and Language of a Channel shall not be less than 60 percent of the entire content of the channel in a month.

79th auction
No bids were received for the vacant MPEG-2 slots of DD Free Dish DTH Platform from 24.07.2024 to 31.03.2025 through 79th online e­ auction process. It was scheduled for July 16, 2024. Broadcasters are not comfortable with the recently announced TRAI rules.
