Broadcasting Services Bill 2023 to replace existing Cable Television Networks Act 1995

The Centre today said that ‘Broadcasting Services (Regulation) Bill 2023’ will replace the existing ‘Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act 1995’ and a draft has been prepared in this regard.

In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur said the Broadcasting Services (Regulation) Bill 2023 will streamline the regulatory process and it will bring the OTT content and digital news under its purview.

The Minister said, the draft bill encompasses provisions for emerging technologies and it seeks to strengthen the self regulatory regime through Broadcast Advisory Council (BAC). The BAC will be the entity for content regulation and advisory body for other emerging technologies in the broadcasting sector. News On Air
