BSNL adds 500,000 customers in Tamil Nadu
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has reached a significant milestone by amassing 500,000 fiber broadband customers in the Tamil Nadu circle.
The PSU has also recently announced a milestone in the Kolkata circle, reaching 60,000 customers via Bharat Fibre. With its dispersed population, scaling the fiber broadband business in India is particularly challenging. Fiber broadband also costs more than mobile services, which generally slows its adoption.
BSNL launched Bharat Fibre services in October 2020. It directly or through the franchisee extends fiber from its nearest Central Office location. HONT and battery backup are then installed at the customer’s identified locations. The services such as Voice, Broadband, and IPTV are enabled per the customer’s request.
Despite being outpaced by the private telcos in the home broadband segment, BSNL remains the country’s third-largest FTTH (fiber-to-the-home) provider.
