DD FreeDish to reach 50 million homes by next year
DD FreeDish is going from strength to strength and is likely to reach 50 million households in the next year, says Sanjiv Shankar, Joint Secretary, Broadcast, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
DD FreeDish has built a strong subscriber base over the past three to four years. And now has 45 million subscribers.
However, India still has 125 million homes without television sets and these are expected to move to linear TV rather than move to streaming or connected TV.
DD FreeDish service is owned and operated by Prasar Bharati and is the only Free-to-Air (FTA) Direct-To-Home (DTH) service that does not charge viewers a monthly subscription fee.
It requires a one-time investment of around Rs 2,000 for purchasing a Set-to-Box (STB) and a small satellite dish with accessories.
