Disney Plus Hotstar Thailand launch plans confirmed
The Walt Disney Company has confirmed plans to launch the Disney Plus Hotstar streaming service in Thailand from the end of this month. It will be closely partnered with local telecoms provider AIS.
The service will launch on June 30, 2021 and be offered at THB799 ($26.20) per year. AIS subscribers will be able to pick it up for THB35 ($1.15) per month.
In addition to the Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic and Pixar content available across other national iterations of the Disney Plus streaming service, the Thai version is boosted with significant amounts of local content.
Disney says it has struck content supply agreements with studios in Thailand, including GDH 559, Sahamongkolfilm, Kantana Group and One 31. This means that Disney Plus Hotstar will be the home to exclusive shows, such as “God Bless The Trainees Too!,” “Extraordinary Siamese Story: Eng and Chang” as well as local box office toping movies “Pee Mak,” “Friend Zone,” “Brother Of The Year,” “Laddaland” and “Tom Yum Goong.”
Local drama aficionados will also be one of the first to catch upcoming titles such as “Love and Fortune” and “My Lucky Star” with the same time telecast on primetime TV.
Other licensed content from Asia available at launch includes Korean science fiction action film “Seobok,” acclaimed Taiwanese drama film “The Silent Forest” and popular Chinese series “The Deer and the Cauldron.”
Also streaming on the service are Oscar-winner “Parasite,” Hong Kong martial arts film “Ip Man 4: The Finale,” and Japanese films and series “Shin Godzilla,” “Let Me Eat Your Pancreas” and “24 Japan.”
“One of the most distinct hallmarks of Thai culture is a shared love for entertainment, and we are thrilled that the launch of Disney Plus Hotstar in Thailand will provide fans with even more viewing choices,” said David Shin, GM, The Walt Disney Company Taiwan, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia (excluding Indonesia).
