Disney Star retains ICC TV & digital rights for India till 2027
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed that Disney Star will continue to be their broadcast partner for TV and Digital telecast for all ICC events in men’s and women’s cricket in India for the next 4 years. This means all ICC events will be broadcasted on Star Sports in India with the digital streaming available on the Disney+ Hotstar app and website till the end of 2027.
Disney Star managed to bag the rights after winning a single-round sealed bid process which meant an increase in the rights fee from the previous cycle in which too Disney had emerged victorious. The process had begun in June 2022 with the confirmation coming on Saturday.
“We are delighted to continue to partner with Disney Star as the home of ICC cricket for the next four years which has delivered an outstanding result for our Members and will support our ambitious growth plans. They will play a crucial role in the future of our sport and connecting and engaging with more fans than ever before,” ICC Chair Greg Barclay was quoted as per an official release.
“Having a broadcast and digital partner for women’s events in India is a significant step forward in our ambition to accelerate the growth of the women’s game. Disney Star presented impressive plans for the promotion of women’s cricket and they clearly share our vision so I’m incredibly excited by the size of the opportunity ahead,” he added.
Meanwhile, K Madhavan, Country Manager & President, Disney Star, also stated that he was elated to continue the association with the ICC and hoped to contribute in the growth of the sport.
“With the acquisition of the ICC Digital and TV broadcast rights, Disney Star has further strengthened its status as the premier destination for marquee cricket events in the country,” he said. SportsTiger
