Doordarshan Launched A New Educational Channel

Doordarshan launched DD Roshini in association with Microsoft Aspire School Program.  This new channel will telecast live TV and Skype lectures in the classrooms to assist teachers who teach in BBMP schools.

DD Roshini is a part of BBMP’s initiative to change and transport the schools which comes under BBMP into world class educational institutions.

Launch of DD Roshini

This educational channel- the digital channel was launched by Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on 6th December 2018 and it is a joint initiative of the State broadcaster, doordarshan and the BBMP.

DD Roshini channel is been designed to help students from nursery to college level and the programs will be telecast from 6 AM to 10PM.

The channel debuts as a pilot.  As of now this facility is available only in schools.  The British council is helping the BBMP to design the programs for DD Roshni.  The students will have access to digital learning and question banks.

Need for DD Roshini

There was always a gap in the quality of education between BBMP schools, colleges and private educational institutions.

The internet will be provided at 2 steps.  One is through edusat and the other is through high speed broadband taken from cables.  These cables ensure continuous connectivity.  The speed of the broadband will be 150 mbps

This channel is a step in achieving the vision of ‘No child left behind’.  DD Roshini is launched to implement the state of the art technology.  This includes augmented reality, virtual reality, Artificial Intelligence and machine learning, Robotics (STEAM) & STEM, usage of cloud etc.

DD Roshini aims to provide an interaction between Indian and the international students.   There are over 22000 students studying in about 40 primary and high schools that are run by the BBMP in Benglauru.

The channel aims to provide world class infrastructure to empower the less privileged.

The channel will be available on DD FreeDish, Airtel Digital TV, Dish TV, Big TV, Tata Sky, VideoconD2h and Sun Direct.— Bangalorean
