Doordarshan Ramps up its DTT Service

Doordarshan is in the process of ramping up its digital terrestrial transmission (DTT) service across the country. Viewers can now watch live sports events while travelling using Doordarshan’s DTT service. The public broadcaster is expanding its new DTT service across the country. The DTT facility will play an important role in providing digital television to its viewers. The facility will be available with the mere use of a dongle. No Internet service will be required to watch the Doordarshan channels on mobile.

The DTT model is an Internet-free broadcast distribution service, through which consumers can receive television channels on the go or at home through television sets, smartphones and tablets-using a channel application and a dongle specifically designed for the service. Doordarshan’s DTT model currently showcases five of its channels-DD News, DD Bharati, DD National, DD Sports and a regional-language channel or DD Kisan, depending on the area. The channels will be available in Delhi, Lucknow, Jalandhar, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Raipur, Indore, Aurangabad, Kolkata, Patna, Ranchi, Guwahati, Cuttack, Bengaluru, and Chennai. The model has the capacity to carry 10 channels.
