Dortmund in multi-faceted tie-up with Pluto TV

Borussia Dortmund (BVB), heavyweights from German soccer’s top-tier Bundesliga, have brought on board free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) service Pluto TV as a major club partner in a multi-faceted agreement.

Through the deal, Pluto TV will launch a curated FAST (free ad-supported streaming channel) for BVB, while also becoming a partial sleeve sponsor of the men’s side and a complete sleeve sponsor for the club’s women’s team.

The sleeve sponsorship element will cover all cup competitions for the men’s team, such as the top-tier pan-European UEFA Champions League, the domestic DFB-Pokal, and the FIFA Club World Cup to take place in mid-2025.

The sleeve logos were on display for the first time yesterday, as BVB opened their Champions League 2024-25 campaign by beating Belgium’s Club Brugge 3-0 away.

For the women’s team, meanwhile, Pluto TV will be the sleeve sponsor across all competitions, including the domestic league.

As well as this element, Pluto TV will launch a FAST channel dedicated to BVB, which will be available for free across all global Pluto TV markets (including Germany, the US, the UK, France, Spain, Italy, Latin America, Canada, Australia, Switzerland and Austria).

The channel will provide a range of content, including full match replays of current and historic BVB matches.

In addition to these aspects of the deal, there will also be Pluto TV logo branding across all Bundesliga home games for BVB, as well as for the club’s eFootball esports side.

Carsten Cramer, BVB’s managing director, said: “Partnering with Pluto TV provides us with an innovative platform that enhances our presence across international markets, reaches new target audiences, and strengthens our connection with local fans.”

BVB’s current list of top-tier commercial partners include Puma as kit supplier, and both Evonik and 1&1 as front-of-shirt sponsors for the men’s team (across different competitions).

Late August saw the Dortmund club add blockchain cryptocurrency firm BlockDAG (BDAG) as their latest premium partner in a record three-year deal.

Pluto TV, meanwhile, was added as a partner by FIFA, global soccer’s governing body, earlier this month, to carry the FIFA+ over-the-top service. Sportcal
