Empowering the future of media technology at IBC2024
IBC2024 will feature a series of dedicated sessions that aim to address the skills gap within the media technology industry.
The sessions, which take place on Monday 16th September and are free to attend, will hear from key stakeholders across three pillars: mentoring, diversity, and careers in media tech.
The mentoring sessions will look at how a mentor can help guide and develop young people within the industry, hearing from both mentors and mentees.
The diversity panel will focus on developing deliberate and intentional targets around diversity and inclusion in the workplace. It will explore what industry leaders should and can do to build and promote standards to achieve a more diverse workplace.
The careers in media tech sessions promises to explore routes into the media technology industry, including the pros and cons of each path. It will cover topics such as talent retention, continuous learning, upskilling, and in-house development.
IBC will also hold a special networking drinks event on Sunday from 4-6pm, which will be followed by a networking breakfast on Monday morning.

“Fostering new talent and creating an inclusive work culture is critical to our industry,” says IBC CEO Mike Crimp. “The new IBC Talent Programme aims to examine the benefits of partnerships and mentoring, best practices for promoting the industry to the next generation of media professionals, nurturing talent, and driving engagement with M&E companies.
“Contributing to the conversation about the development of talent and a more diverse and inclusive industry will be other partner groups, including RISE and RISE Academy, #GALSNGEAR, Women in Immersive Tech, Women in Streaming Media, HBS, SMPTE, RTS and Final Pixel Academy — along with the new Global Media and Entertainment Talent Manifesto’s inaugural global flagship event for skills, diversity, and education, the World Skills Café, being held at the RAI on the eve of IBC2024.”
The World Skills Café event will be a “hands-on interactive session” which aims is to bring together broadcasters, streaming brands, technology vendors, outside broadcast (OB) companies, studios, diversity leaders, recruiters and education representatives to drive discussions in collaborative workshops and panels throughout the afternoon.
“There will be time to understand at what levels of seniority we need more technical people, in what job roles and where geographically these gaps exist,” explains co-founder Carrie Wootten.
“In addition to this, we will also be looking at how we can attract and retain more diverse communities into our dynamic and brilliant industry. The solutions aren’t going to be easy and one size won’t fit all either. But this session will hopefully give everyone the time to discuss these issues in detail and provide the breathing space to really consider what actions and steps need to be taken and how we can work collectively together.” TVBEurope
