Former Union Minister And Senior Congress Leader Jaipal Reddy Passes Away

The veteran Congress leader was recently diagnosed with pneumonia and was admitted to the hospital, where he died at 1.28 am.

Reddy has been a parliamentarian for several decades since 1984 and held key portfolios in various governments.

He was the information and broadcasting minister in IK Gujral government.

During the UPA-1 government he held portfolios like urban development and culture. In UPA-2, he was again assigned the urban development ministry.

Later, he became the minister of petroleum and natural gas. He was then shifted to the science and technology and earth sciences ministries.

As Information and broadcasting Minister, Reddy got the Prasar Bharati Act notified on 23rd Nov, 1997.

President Ram Nath Kovind expressed grief at the demise of former Union Minister Jaipal Reddy.

In a tweet, the President referred to Reddy as a thinking person’s politician and an outstanding parliamentarian.

Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu paid his last respect to senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Jaipal Reddy at his residence in Hyderabad.

Vice President said that Jaipal Reddy was not only an excellent leader but also a great minister who bought name and fame to the portfolio he held.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his grief at the demise of the former Union Minister.

In a tweet the Prime Minister said that Jaipal Reddy was an effective administrator.Prasar Bharati Chairman Dr. A Surya Prakash also condoled the demise of S Jaipal Reddy.

In a tweet the Chairman said “The Prasar Bharati parivar remembers with gratitude Jaipal Reddy’s commitment to establish an autonomous corporation to run Akashvani AIR and DDNational as I&B Minister, he got the Prasar Bharati Act notified on Nov 23, 1997. RIP Jaipal ji.”―DD News
