Google joins the race for media rights of IPL
Google has shown interest in buying the broadcast rights of the Indian Premier League. Board of Control for Cricket in India after this season of IPL (BCCI) Broadcasting rights will be auctioned. After Amazon and Disney, now Google has also joined the race. Altogether half a dozen companies have procured bidding documents from BCCI. IPL is the third most watched sporting event in the world. BCCI will auction the broadcast rights of IPL from 2023 to 2027 this year. At present, the broadcast rights of IPL are with Star Sports Network.
According to a Bloomberg report, “American tech company Alphabet Inc. has purchased bidding documents related to broadcast rights from BCCI. This US company also has a video streaming website YouTube. However, the company has not disclosed its name for buying the broadcasting rights.
