IFFI introduces new award for Best Web Series (OTT)
The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) has introduced the Best Web Series (OTT) award this year to acknowledge and encourage India’s thriving streaming sector. A total of 32 entries across 10 languages from 15 OTT platforms have been selected for the inaugural Best Web Series award. The winning series will receive a certificate and a cash prize of 10 lakh rupees.
Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani is the head of the five-member jury for the Best Web Series (OTT) award. Other members of the jury are filmmakers – Utpal Borpujari and Krishna DK, and actors – Divya Dutta and Prosenjit Chatterjee. We spoke to jury member Utpal Borpujari about the significance of this award:
Announcing many ‘firsts’ in the 54th edition of IFFI, Information, and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur said that the OTT award will acknowledge and honour the transformative role of original content creators in India, celebrating their contributions to employment and innovation. The OTT industry today is contributing towards taking Indian stories to the world, nurturing young talent, and producing world-class content.
