Indian subscriber status-January 2024

India total subscriber base stands at 1193.25 million, 1160.71 mn are wireless subscribers and 32.54 mn are wireline subscribers, monthly growth rate of 0.25%. This translates to an overall density of 85.38 percent: 83.05% wireless subscribers and 2.33% wireline. This constitutes 55.62% urban subscribers and 44.39 % rural.

In the month of January, 2024, 12.36 million subscribers submitted their requests for Mobile Number. With this, the cumulative MNP requests increased from 927.19 million at the end of December-23 to 939.55 million at the end of January-24, since implementation of MNP.

Number of active wireless subscribers in January, 2024 was 1050.60 million.

The total Broadband Subscribers increased to 911.03 million. Top five service providers constitute 98.35% market share of the total broadband subscribers, with Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd at 474.62 million, Bharti Airtel at 267.26 million, Vodafone Idea at 126.78 million, BSNL at 25.08 million and Atria Convergence at 2.23 million.

The top five Wired Broadband Service providers are Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd 10.63 million, Bharti Airtel 7.50 million, BSNL 3.89 million, Atria Convergence Technologies 2.23 million and Oneott Intertainment Limited 1.25 million.

The top five Wireless Broadband Service providers were Reliance Jio Infocom Ltd 463.99 million, Bharti Airtel 259.76 million, Vodafone Idea 126.77 million, BSNL 21.19 million and Intech Online Pvt. Ltd. 0.24 million.

Total wireless subscribers increased from 1,158.49 million at the end of December-23, to 1,160.71 million at the end of January-24, thereby registering a monthly growth rate of 0.19%.

By telcos. On the gross customer additions score, Jio added 4.17 million mobile users in January while Airtel reported 0.75 million additions. Vi continued to suffer customer losses, resulting in its gross mobile user base shrinking by 1.52 million to 221.52 million. Jio and Airtel’s gross user bases were higher at 463.99 million and 382.48 million respectively in January.

Airtel and Jio added 3.55 million and 1.1 million active users respectively in January 2024, while Vi lost 1.72 million active users.

Airtel’s active user base jumped to 381.09 million in January while Jio’s rose to 425.61 million. By contrast, Vi’s active user base shrank to 194.96 million.

On the wireless broadband user front, Jio and Airtel added 4.18 million and 2.39 million 4G/5G users respectively in January, while Vi lost 0.51 million 3G/4G users. Vi is yet to roll out 5G networks.
