Legal Provisions Exist To Take Action Against TV Channels
Legal provisions are in place to take action against TV Channels whose contents violate the broadcasting guidelines, Information and Broadcasting Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore said.
Replying to a debate on a private member’s bill titled-Television Broadcasting Companies (Regulation) Bill-2015, Col Rathore said in the Lok Sabha that the licence of offending channels can be cancelled for airing objectionable contents.
He said, over 800 channels are operational in the country and they are bound to adhere to the provisions of the Companies Act to protect the interests of the employees.
Col Rathore also referred to the late Doordarshan Cameraman Achyutanand Sahu for his professional commitment.
Sahu was gunned down by the Naxals in Chhattisgarh in the line of duty during the recent Assembly polls. The Minister said, there are committed professional in every field who are sustaining the country’s development.
Later the BJP member Prahlad Singh Patel withdrew his private member’s bill. Bhartruhari Mahtab of BJD was among those who spoke on the Bill.― News On AIR
