Lukewarm response to DD FreeDish auctions for vacant MPEG slots

Two auctions were held by Prasar Bharti in May 2024.

On May 30, Prasar Bharati opened the bid for  78th e-auction for vacant MPEG-4 Slots of DD Free Dish Platform for the period from June 4, 2024 to March 31, 2025. Bharat 24 -Vision of New India was the only successful bidder.

Only satellite  channels licensed by the  Ministry of I&B were allowed  to participate in the e-auction. Only companies holding valid permission from Ministry of I & B could apply. International Public Broadcasters licensed by the Ministry of I & B could also participate. The reserve price was Rs. 1,66,59,000/- per annum.

In the 76th e- auction for MPEG-4 slots for the period, April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025, held March 11, 2024, the successful nine channels were Aastha Bhajan, ABZY COOL, ABZY Movies, Bansal News, Chardila Time TV, India News, News 18 UP/UK, Sudarshan News, and VTV News.

On May 28, 2024 the 77th e-auction for DD Free Dish MPEG-2 slots for the period June 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025 was held. Not a single broadcaster bid for the slot. They found the base price too steep and unreasonable.

In the 75th e-auction, for MPEG-2 slots for April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025, held on February 19, 2024,  there were 64  successful bidders.
