Madras HC order blocks over 13,000 websites to check on piracy

Madras High Court has ordered the blocking of over 13,000 websites to check piracy of the much-awaited film Vikram Vedha, released on 30 September. The interim injunction was passed in a suit filed by Reliance Entertainment Studios Pvt Ltd.

The Bench restrained the Respondents from infringing copyright in the film and ordered that “for this purpose, if the websites/websites prescribed in Schedule-A for the summons of the Judge” If it becomes necessary to block the pages, the same will be done by all concerned”. The Court permitted the defendants to allow the recording, reproduction or camcording or transmitting, transmitting or making available or distributed to others or duplicated or displayed or issued or uploaded or downloaded or displayed or played and/or any Ordered to stop giving permission in any manner.

CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray Discs, VCDs, Cable TV, Direct-to-Home services, Internet services, multimedia messaging services, pen drives, hard drives, tapes, DAS, satellites, including movie access without the proper license, conditional access system.

The Court observed that if the interim order is not passed, it may result in piracy in all aspects of the case and will lead to irreversible situation leading to legal damages incapable of compensation. Trends Crast News
