Microsoft’s new broadcast development kit for Teams is tailored for cloud production workflows

Microsoft has released a new broadcast development kit for Teams that will make it easy for production studios to integrate Teams feeds right into their cloud production workflows. The open-source project will require an Azure virtual machine to pull the audio and video feeds of Teams meetings directly from the Microsoft Cloud, and it will allow media producers to send Teams content to their online cloud studio without using any desktop app.

Just like Skype back in the day, Microsoft Teams has become a popular tool in the media industry to invite guests from a remote location. Microsoft released last year NDI-Out for Teams for that specific use case, but this new broadcast development kit for Teams should open a lot of doors for media producers who’ve been using cloud-based tools. Notably, the broadcast development kit will also allow producers to send SRT and RTMP feeds from their online cloud studio directly into a Teams meeting or another endpoint.

Microsoft has created a GitHub page for its open-source broadcast development kit for Microsoft Teams, where the company will be welcoming contributions and suggestions. Media producers can already use the solution for different scenarios including producing interviews, sharing a real-time conversation in a streaming platform, or creating a “watch party” in a Teams meeting.
