Netflix ad-supported tier surpasses 23 million active users a month
Netflix’s ad-supported tier has surpassed 23 million global active users per month.
The figure was shared by the streaming giant’s advertising chief Amy Reinhard, and reported in Variety magazine.
Speaking to the entertainment magazine she said she was “really excited” about engagement.
It comes just a month after the streamer said it its ad-supported users had over 15 million active users.
“Scaling our business is absolutely our biggest priority right now but we want to make sure we’re doing that in a meaningful way for the members,” she said.
The ad tier was launched in November 2022, and is £4.99 a month for UK users, as opposed to a standard membership of £10.99.
Amazon Prime has faced criticism for its decision to introduce limited adverts from next month, with the streamer set to charge viewers an additional £2.99 a month to avoid the adverts.
As well as Netflix, major streaming rival Disney also has an ad free option, but both Netflix and Disney offer the ad-supported options as a cheaper alternative to the usual service rather than charging more to have them removed.
Last year Netflix expanded its offerings within the advertising sector, with the introduction of new offers for advertisers with an aim to expand within the ad-supported sector.
Netflix is expected to eek past Disney + in advertising terms, according to an Insider Intelligence report at the end of last year. MarketingBeat
