New DTT tender in Spain

Spain’s Council of Ministers has announced a public tender for the allocation of six state wide DTT licences.

The licences are for three SD and three HD channels, with each tenderer being able to apply for one in each format.

Those who secure HD licences will have to ensure the programming they offer is of a high quality.

Bids must be submitted by Thursday, May 28, with the final winners being announced no later than six months after the start of the tender.

One of the aims of the tender is to promote the development of advanced services such as access to digital multi-platform content on the internet.

Another is to boost HD services in Spain.

The launch of the six new channels is being made possible through the release of the digital dividend on March 31. Broadband TV News
