October-Wireless and broadband subscribers decline, wireline connections increase
TRAI subscriber data reveals:
In October 2024, total telephone subscribers stood at 1188.20 million, with wireless at 1150.42 million and wireline at 37.79 million.
This brings the overall teledensity to 84.46 percent, with urban at 131.31 percent and rural at 58.39 percent.
The total broadband subscribers decreased from 944.40 million at the end of September 2024 to 941.47 million at the end of October 2024 with a monthly decline rate of 0.31 percent. RJio had a 50.43 percent market share, Bharti Airtel 30.56 percent, and Vi 13.32 percent.
Wireline subscribers increased from 36.93 million at the end of September 2024 to 37.79 million at the end of October 2024. Net increase in the wireline subscriber base was 0.85 million with a monthly rate of growth 2.31 percent. Reliance Jio held 41.51 percent, Bharti Airtel 25.25 percent, and Vodafone Idea 2.24 percent of the wireline market in October 2024. BSNL, MTNL and APSFL, the three PSUs access service providers, held 23.29 percent of the wireline market.
Total wireless subscribers decreased from 1,153.72 million at the end of September 2024, to 1,150.42 million at the end of October 2024, thereby registering a monthly decline rate of 0.29 percent. Reliance Jio held 39.99 percent, Bharti Airtel 33.50 percent, and Vodafone Idea 18.30 percent of the wireline market in October 2024. BSNL and MTNL, the two PSU access service providers, held 8.22 percent of the wireless market.
