Peacock becomes streaming home of 2022 Winter Olympics in US
NBCUniversal’s coverage of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing is to be broadcast for fans in the US on its streaming platform, Peacock.
From 2 – 20 February, the company will make available all events on broadcast and cable television to provide fans with a ‘comprehensive Olympics destination’ for all live action and catch-up.
“We are excited to offer NBC Olympics’ storytelling and complete streaming coverage of the 2022 Olympic Winter Games on Peacock,” commented Molly Solomon, Executive Producer, NBC Olympics & Paralympics.
“This approach provides the American audience with a dynamic, easy-to-use Olympic viewing hub where not a single moment, live or on-demand, will be missed.”
As well as live competition streams of all 15 sports in the competition, the collaboration allows for customers in the premium tier to also watch the opening and closing ceremonies, NBC’s nightly primetime show, full replays of all competition available immediately upon conclusion, daily studio programming, medal ceremonies and highlight clips.
“As the streaming destination of the 2022 Winter Olympics, Peacock will offer the ultimate fan experience all in one place,” added Kelly Campbell, President, Peacock.
“From every live event and gold medal moment to exclusive daily shows, channels and original documentaries, viewers will be able to easily catch-up and keep up on all the action throughout the Games with our comprehensive Olympics hub on Peacock.”
The opening ceremony takes place on 4 February with competition coverage beginning two days before. NBC’s first show will take place on 3 February as the games then conclude on 20 February.
In building on the platform’s wider sports coverage, in recent weeks the United States Football League (USFL) also announced an agreement with NBC Sports to show its regular and postseason games, which will be in April this year.
Furthermore, as of September last year, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) banned North Korea from taking part in the tournament due to its refusal to send a team to the Tokyo 2020 Summer Games.
Thomas Bach, President of the IOC, also confirmed that the North Korean Olympic Committee would not receive any financial support throughout the suspension.
This week, it has been reported that the International Olympic Committee has insisted the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics will go ahead despite recent concerns over COVID-19 cases worldwide. Insider Sport
