Premier League bags record-breaking Rs 70,456 crore broadcasting rights

The English Premier League (EPL), one of the world’s most popular football leagues, has bagged the most expensive domestic TV broadcasting rights ever for the next four years.

These rights from EPL have been bought by Sky and TNT Sports for about Rs 70,456 crore ($8.45 billion), which earlier also had the broadcasting rights of this league. This is the biggest ever domestic deal in the history of British sports. With this deal, for the first time, all the matches of the league played outside will also be telecast live in Britain.

With this agreement, EPL has become the third largest league in the world in earnings from broadcasting rights. According to a report, EPL earns around Rs 1.05 lakh crore from broadcasting rights for domestic and international matches. This new contract will be effective from 2025-26. A total of 270 matches will be telecast during this period. This new contract includes a total of five packages. Under this, School Sports will broadcast 215 matches while TNT will broadcast 52 matches.
