Serie A broadcasts 1st live soccer game from metaverse
Italy’s top-flight soccer league has entered the metaverse, providing Serie A fans with a new way to watch matches and connect.
AC Milan’s 1-0 home win over Fiorentina on Sunday became the first soccer match where fans could catch all the action from the metaverse.
“We believe that the frontier of technological innovation is extremely important for a modern league,” said Serie A CEO Luigi De Siervo.
Fans in Africa and the Middle East were exclusively provided with the opportunity to watch Sunday’s match from the “Serie A room in The Nemesis metaverse,” where fans were granted access through NFT “tickets.” The room also provided fan interaction and live stats.
Serie A’s first step into the metaverse is the product of a collaboration with blockchain software technology company ConsenSys and metaverse-based gaming platform The Nemesis.
ConsenSys completed a $450 million Series D funding round in March, valuing the company at over $7 billion. Led by ParaFi Capital, the round included Microsoft, Temasek Holdings, Anthos Capital, and SoftBank’s Vision Fund 2.
Launched in 2019, The Nemesis is free to use and provides access to other live experiences including concerts, parties, and challenges with friends. Front Office Sports
