Sony acquires TV rights for MLC in India
Culver Max Entertainment Private Limited, owner of Sony Sports Network, announces the acquisition of exclusive television rights for T20 cricket league Major League Cricket (MLC) in India for one year. The second edition begins with MI New York facing Seattle Orcas at Church Street Park, Morrisville, live telecast in India on July 6, 2024. The league’s final will be at Grand Prairie Stadium, Texas, live in India on July 29, 2024.
MLC has gained attention from India’s cricket enthusiasts, featuring teams like Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Chennai Super Kings. Key players expected include Quinton de Kock, Marcus Stoinis, and Nicholas Pooran.
The broadcast team includes Sunil Gavaskar, Wasim Akram, Danny Morrison, Daren Ganga, Pommie Mbangwa, Matthew Hayden, Chris Morris, Natalie Germanos, Scott Styris, and Mike Haysmen.
In the first season, MI New York won the championship against Seattle Orcas at Grand Prairie Stadium, Texas. Nicholas Pooran, top scorer for the champions, was Player of the Season with 388 runs.
Sony Sports Network aims to strengthen its cricket broadcasting with MLC rights, adding to its portfolio covering New Zealand Cricket, England Cricket Board, Sri Lanka Cricket, and India’s T20I series against Zimbabwe. Financial Express
