Star Gets MIB Approval For Malayalam Sports Channel

Star India has received The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s (MIB) has given Star India permission to launch Star Sports 1 Malayalam. This will become the sixth edition to Star Sports regional language bouquet after Star Sports 1 Tamil, Star Sports 1 Telugu, Star Sports 1 Kannada, Star Sports 1 Bangla and soon to be launched Star Sports 1 Marathi.

Star Sports 1 Marathi, which failed to meet the ICC World Cup 2019 launch deadline, is expected to go on air in time to broadcast the Pro Kabaddi League from July 20.

Star Sports Malayalam, for which Star India has got the MIB nod on May 20, might take a little while for the launch.

Star Sports 1 Bangla, on air since March 5, and Star Sports 1 Marathi had been cleared on the licences of Star Movies Kids and Star Movies Kids HD. Premium events like the Indian Premier League and the ICC World Cup are also offered in Malayalam and Marathi on Star India’s regional GEC and movie channels.

Star Sports has acquired a rich content both in terms quality and quantity. Star’s bucket of cricket rights includes International Cricket Council (ICC), Asian Cricket Council (ACC), Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Indian Premier League (IPL) New Zealand Cricket Board, Bangladesh Cricket Board; Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL); Karnataka Premier League (KPL); and Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

The other live sports content on Star includes Pro Kabaddi; Indian Super League (ISL), I-League, Hero Super Cup, Premier League, Bundesliga; Badminton World Federation (BWF) events, Premier Badminton League (PBL); Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT); Formula 1; Wimbledon, The French Open and US Open.―Inside Sports
