State govt to lease OTT movie platform from private players for 2 years
The state government is moving ahead with plans to introduce its version of the OTT movie platform. As part of the initiative, the government has decided to lease an OTT platform from a private company for the first two years.
Eight companies have shown interest in the tender. The quality inspection of these OTT platforms will be held on Monday under the supervision of a special technical committee formed by Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC).
The selected companies must inform the committee within two weeks of their financial dealings and the technicalities of their platform. Only after these procedures, a company will be selected for platform development by mid-March.
Within two years, the government is planning to launch their own OTT platform. Instead of the current practice of purchasing films from producers, the government will introduce a fixed percentage share of the show’s revenue.
The new platform will be also able to screen award-winning films not released in theatres. Further, the government will also try bringing movies released in theatres to OTT after the stipulated time. Mathrubhumi
