DTH Update

Sun Direct Starts Offering DPO Packs In Regional Languages

There’s no doubt that the new tariff regime by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is still the talk of the town. However, we have to admit that things are slowly settling down. Unlike earlier, subscribers are now at least able to view the channels which they’ve paid for and the FTA channels are working fine without any issues. There is still some section of users facing issues related to the pack changes, but everything will settle down in the coming days. One of the biggest blow for subscribers under the new tariff regime implemented by Trai was the removal of long duration plans, but it seems like DTH providers are bringing back the good old long duration plans and the first operator to do so is Sun Direct. One of the popular Direct-to-the-home service providers in South India, Sun Direct has started offering its regional DPO packs with up to six months validity.

Sun Direct DPO Packs Now Come in Six-Month Packages

As noted, Sun Direct is providing the DPO packs in regional languages such as Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali and Odia for up to six months. Users are also allowed to choose the DPO packs for three months as well. As expected, subscribers choosing the DPO plans for six or three months will get some discount. For example, if a user selects the Sun Direct Telugu DPO Pack 1 for one month, the charges will be Rs 179.66 (excluding taxes). If a user chooses the plan on a monthly basis, for three months, the charges would be Rs 538.98, however, Sun Direct is providing it for Rs 500.82; So a little amount of savings. And for six months, the charges on a monthly basis are Rs 1,077.96, but Sun Direct will charge Rs 958.47 (excluding taxes).

Overall, there isn’t a significant difference in the prices, but at least consumers are able to save something by choosing the long-duration plans. As mentioned above, Sun Direct is providing the long-duration plans in various languages and a couple of Rest of India (ROI) plans are also available in three-month option.

Having said that, Sun Direct is not allowing users to choose the basic FTA packs for longer duration and consumers will have to pay Rs 153 every month. Another best part is Sun Direct is also providing these long term plans for HD users as well. Interested Sun Direct subscribers can log into their account via the website or mobile app to choose any of the long-duration plans.

Long-Duration Plans Save Time and Money

Before the new tariff regime by TRAI kicked off, every DTH provider used to offer long term plans with a validity of up to 12 months. That’s not the case now. For the users who chose a long term plan right before the new Trai regime, DTH providers stated the balance would be credited to their account and they can pay the current subscription bill using the same amount.

By offering long duration plans, Sun Direct is saving a lot of time to its subscribers alongside giving a little amount of discount as well.―Telecom Talk
