Tata Sky changes its name to Tata Play after 15 years
Tata Sky has announced that it is changing its name to Tata Play after over 15 years of its existence. The company, which claims to have millions of customers, believes its business now also involves fiber-to-home broadband and Binge services rather than just Direct-To-Home (DTH) service. The new name signifies the expanded range of products and services offered by the company. Currently, Tata Sky has a total of 23 million connections and 19 million active subscribers.
“While we originally started as a DTH company, we have now fully transformed into a content distribution company. As the needs of a small base of customers were changing, and they were consuming content on OTT platforms, we wanted to create a platform and provide them with a unified experience. So, we launched Binge. We also offer a niche broadband business,” Harit Nagpal, MD & CEO, Tata Play, told ET.
The company has also revealed that it is adding support for Netflix, which will offer its customers a big relief. Users now don’t need to search for ways to watch Netflix as the popular OTT app will be available starting tomorrow. Currently, the service offers support for most of the major video streaming apps such as Amazon Prime, Disney+ Hotstar, Voot, and more.
Back in December 2021, the DTH operator introduced Tata Play Binge Combo packs, including 12 OTT apps and linear TV channels. The company has now confirmed that it will also announce some new Tata Play Netflix Combo packs on January 27.
In addition to this, the company will also be offering free reconnection services to those who have a Tata Sky connection at their homes, but haven’t recharged for a long time. It is also removing the service visit charges of Rs 175. India Today
